How I Use It
I used this app initially when I could not take my class outside during our recess period. I realized how engaged the students were when they were using the app so I began to figure out ways to use it in the curriculum. I had them use it to demonstrate their understanding of American History by having them make models of events and present them to the class. They used the creative mode and were able to connect to each other's Minecraft worlds via wifi. This allowed them to collaborate on projects. I think it is a great tool
I love this app! I don't fully understand what the kids love so much about it, but most of my students could spend hours working on it. It seems a bit pixelated, but the students do not seem to mind. They will think of the most create ways to use the app. I had a pair of students who used Google Earth to view our school and then created a model of it using Minecraft-pocket edition. The other students loved it so much they wrote up mortgage papers and began to custom build things for other students in the class. I have found that all I have to do is tell my students that I want them to use Minecraft to demonstrate their understanding of a content area and they will "blow me out of the water" with their brilliance.
