How I Use It
This is a fun, interactive and engaging app that helps students practice their addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts. It can used for the class as a whole, teams or preferably on an individual basis. What made this app very practical was that students received feedback after each success or mistake and students felt very encouraged to keep moving forward. The simplistic nature of the program made it easy for students to use and literally no directions needed to be given to students. They were able to select which skill they wanted to work on and there were multiple levels of difficulty so everyone felt challenged. While this app is geared to younger students, 5th graders like the fact that they could practice problems that were a mix of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. They were kept on their toes and really had to read the problem. They also liked the challenge rounds and worker harder to see how many problems they could complete within the time limit.
My Take
If you are looking for a simple skill and drill practice app that has limited bells and whistles, then this is the app for you. I liked the fact that you could turn the sound off and not hear "you got it" messages as some students do not like the messages and prefer to focus on the content. I also liked the challenge options and different ways to select answers. From a teacher perspective it was very easy to use and you could change the settings in under a minute. This app serves students that need skill and drill on their basic math facts and does not focus on problem solving or multiple step problems. This could serve students that need repetition in a fun and engaging app that provides practice and helps students to gain fact fluency. I particularly liked the practice sessions that included problems from all math operations, forcing students to focus and constantly, shifting from one operation to another. The challenge quizzes were highly engaging and made students want to complete more problems within the time frame while also being accurate. Overall, a simple app that provides much needed practice in developing math fact fluency in students.
