How I Use It
Lark is a member of the Storybird family -- but this "bird of a feather" focuses on poetry. Lark is a free app, and is incredibly simple to use. Much like Storybird, Lark provides the user with a choice of stunning illustrations -- it is then up to the user to create a poem using the words provided with each image. Any classroom can utilize this fun and simple app -- it may work especially well in ELL classes or excited the "non-writer." I suggest using Lark to introduce poetry as a fun "hook" introduction or activity, and then reintroduce it as an independent practice or assessment activity.
My Take
Simply put, Lark is a fun app. Between the amazing illustrations and the simple to use drag-and-drop word placement, Lark makes creating poetry fun AND easy! Lark is free to download and use, only requiring a login (if your students already use Storybird, the login is the same) to get started creating. The only drawback to Lark is that users are limited to the words provided with each illustration; unfortunately, you can't write your own material. Overall, Lark is easy to use, fun, engaging and presents poetry in a non-threatening manner -- download it now!
