How I Use It
I work with middle school students to create a student centered news broadcast called Media Matters, and we use iMovie to edit our weekly broadcast. iMovie allows students to easily layer green screen videos and backgrounds, insert pictures in pictures and easily transition from segment to segment. The start up took a few weeks since students had to be trained on how to use the program, but now everything runs fairly smoothly and students are pretty much doing the bulk of the editing. Using iMovie has really stretched my students creatively! I have students who are now doing still animation projects in iMovie and looking for more creative ways to incorporate our green screen. Here is an example of some of the things we are doing with this program. http://www.teachertube.com/video/media-matters-april-10-380077
I think this project is great! It started out really slow, but my students are learning a lot of skills through the production of this broadcast. They choose their topics to record that week. They write scripts and go through an editing process. They set up their own equipment and record themselves every week. What I have really loved is seeing the constant growth in creativity and all the new ideas that my students are coming up with!
