How I Use It
Students use iMovie to create video presentations of their own writing. Students were allowed to choose a piece of their writing from some time during the school year and then use iMovie to create a short film expressing themselves through that writing with visuals. Students loved working with iMovie on the iPad and creating something that was truly personal to them. Instruction of using iMovie correctly is a requirement before turning the students loose to do their work. This adds to the time required in the setup for using the product, but is worth the initial investment of time to create quality projects with little intervention from the teacher.
My Take
iMovie is a great tool to use with students to meet some of the common core literacy standards in all subject areas. It provides them a means to create something more personal and interesting that the standard essay or PowerPoint. Now that iMovie is free with new iOS devices, it's value is even greater as a learning tool.
