How I Use It
I used this product as a small group activity for my VPK group. It is great to help them begin thinking outside the box and learn new concepts. It did a better job teaching how to measure then I did. It was great because my father who is our Honorary Grandpa of the School would then take them outside to measure and help him cut the pieces into the correct measurement. It worked well because everyone wanted to be a helper and find ways to use the measuring tape we placed in the science area. The student's interest in measuring and cutting took on a whole other wing and we had to find more and more ways to use measuring in the classroom. Although it had many other features and materials the measuring part really made a profound impact on my students.
My Take
My overall opinion was it was a great $0.99 investment and I also found a sister application called Grandma's Garden. It was a wonderful tool to help them learn new ways to use math and also to appreciate the importance of math. My school age group enjoys the application because it make math more fun and they can appreciate the change in the way the material is presented to them. I like that it is fun and cheap. I also encouraged a lot of the parents to download it for use at home and they found that it was a great benefit for their students and they all liked the application for home use. It served my preschoolers and school age group in many different ways. For the preschoolers it offered an opportunity to learn new math concepts in a fun and interactive manner. They enjoyed the activities that were offered through the application. My school age students are in the grades between Kindergarten and second grade and they all told me verbally that they like this because it made math fun. They learned that they have to use math a lot in life and it is important to start loving it now!!!
