How I Use It
Engage students in real-world scavenger hunts. While reading the YA novel Touching Spirit Bear, students in my 7th grade ELA class used Google Maps to explore the actual Alaskan Islands that serve as the setting for the novel. Likewise, with Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson, students explored lower Manhattan, zooming in on Battery Park and other streets that were central to the novel's setting.
My Take
The go-to navigation/maps app. Whether you're a tourist searching for the nearest metro stop or simply looking for a short-cut through your local park, this is the most comprehensive, accurate app I've seen. The street-view is a nice touch, helping with recognition. It is also easy to switch between what modes of transportation are available. Interesting to see how much time you save/lose by taking the bus as opposed to driving, or vice versa.
