How I Use It
I used Google Classroom to track and guide my lessons during an individual Reading Tutorial. Google Classroom allowed me to post lesson material before, share the tutoring agenda with the student, create a space for the student to comment on her work or my posts outside of class and finally, to create a sort of log of what we did during tutoring sessions. I have used Google Classroom with my small group ELL classes as well. Again, it's a place to post work for students to do outside of class, a place to post homework resources and keep track of shared resources with students and families. I've also been part of Google Classrooms as a student. I believe there are many more features to explore on Google Classroom that I just haven't yet discovered. I am part of a Google campus and wish I could continue to use the classrooms I create once I leave my current school.
I believe Google Classroom has the potential for students and teachers to keep track of class. I've only used with face to face classes, but can see the potential to use Google Classroom with online only classes. The greatest benefit of Google Classroom is its use as a landing space to keep track of what is discussed in class, a visible forum for students and teachers to interact within and a one-stop-shop for posting assignments, resources and quizzes. As more features are added to GC and it's easier to link to other educational resources I wonder what the future potential will allow teachers and students to do. I would like the ability to use Google Classroom as a private teacher outside of my school's Google account. Perhaps that is something Google can extend to individual users.
