How I Use It
Google Classroom is a virtual classroom environment, that allows teachers to post assignments and announcements on-line and students are able to complete work as their schedule and location allows. Students and teachers can communicate with each other as needed, and teachers can moderate students’ work and offer comments and help them to complete assignments successfully. Grading can be done right online, with no large stacks of paper having to travel with you.
This is an amazing tool for the classroom. Google Classroom allows students and teachers to easily communicate after class has ended. Google Classroom has been used with a seventh grade social studies class conducting a research project on the United States Civil War. The students using Google Classroom completed the whole project on-line and finished 2 days sooner than students conducting the project in the traditional manner. There were no more lost or missing assignments. The students were able to find exactly what they were looking for with the click of a mouse button. I was able to monitor the students’ progress, make sure they were staying on task and guide them if they were having difficulty. When it was time to grade the project, nothing could have been simpler. I was able to view assignments online and return my part of the grading to the classroom teacher easily. Student engagement was awesome. Students picked up on the tool easily and couldn’t wait to continue to use it during class, as well as at home. And all for free, Google Classroom is tool well worth implementation and integration.
