Common Sense Privacy Evaluation

The privacy evaluation process categorizes edtech tools into the following three tiers:

Use Responsibly

Indicates that the service meets the minimum criteria and more research should be completed prior to use.

Use Caution

Indicates that the service does not clearly define the safeguards to protect student information.

Not Recommended

Indicates that the service does not support encryption or lacks a detailed privacy policy.

Pros: Students can import content to use in their presentations from multiple sources.

Cons: It'll take some time to get up and running with all the features and functionality.

Bottom Line: Teachers and students can make dynamic presentations that involve different types of media in this innovative, fun app.

Teachers can use Explain Everything Classic to present information to students in a visually engaging way. But an even more exciting part of this app is helping your students learn to create and present with it -- individually or on group projects. At the student level, Explain Everything Classic is probably used most effectively by students who already have mastered the basics of giving a good presentation. There are learning opportunities outside of presentations as well. Teachers could give a math assessment where students solve a problem and narrate their thinking. Students could import one of their documents and annotate it, explaining their writing technique.

Teachers may want to review fair use and content attribution guidelines with students pulling content from a variety of sources to use in their presentations. If students are struggling with all the options on this app, you may want to spend some time going through the help page and FAQs as a whole class or in small groups. Students in upper elementary grades could use this app, but would likely need extra support to access the many tools and options available.

Explain Everything Classic is a presentation app that integrates content from many sources that teachers and teens can use to create lessons, tutorials, and more for class or personal use. This formidable tool is like a superhero version of PowerPoint. Users can import photos, PDF files, movies, and more from many sources (including iTunes, Dropbox, Evernote, Google Drive, WebDAV, etc.) to use in a presentation.

Explain Everything Classic can also be used as a whiteboard with the iPad video display. Before you start, consider reading the help page to discern all the features. Then tap on New Project and choose a blank project screen or import from one of many sources (you must enter your username and password information for that source on the linking screen). A white screen with tool options stacked on the left side appears, and users can begin to import content, write, and record audio for the presentation. Then save (it also autosaves) and play back the presentation. You can also edit specific sections of your recording without having to redo large portions of the presentation.

Your students can learn crucial 21st-century skills with Explain Everything Classic. They can learn how to present information using multiple forms of expression (images, text, video, and audio) through digital technology. They also can learn how to convey messages effectively using technology as they choose which social media accounts to link with so that they can use that content and the ways to do so effectively and responsibly. Explain Everything Classic can help students (and teachers!) take presentations to a new level, as long as they don't let the bells and whistles overshadow basics.

Support Does the product take into account learners of varying abilities, skill levels, and learning styles? Does it address both struggling and advanced students?

Everything is Easy With Explain Everything: Using Explain Everything to Demonstrate Mastery in All Content Areas
This tool takes student creativity to a whole new level! Not only can students explain and demonstrate content mastery, but they also can add a flair of color and creativity to their knowledge. Teachers can see what students truly know by hearing them explain a concept right on their project slides. The ability to create slides with ease and add in pictures and text are just a few of my favorite features that this app has to offer. Students can use this app in more ways than just explaining math problems. I have had students create drawings using this app to save as pictures for another project, and I have also had students create how-to tutorials with this app as well. This tool is definitely a winner when it comes to demonstrating mastery and even background knowledge.
