How I Use It
Children can read this interactive and engaging story book app on an iPad individually, i n pairs, or via an interactive white board for the whole class. This app is great for reading and learning because there are no distracting features (e.g., N0 in-app purchases or pop-ups). The app has been designed to help children focus on listening to the story. Children can also tap on individual words and make up their own sentences. The story features amazing Rocko the Rocko ship that zooms across space and writes words in the sky. This inspires children to begin taking an interest in letter shaping and writing. After reading or listening to the story children might like to make their own Rocket ship from craft materials and ZOOM their rocketship in shapes of letters or write words in the sky or during sand pit play. Children can also read the story at home with their parents and discuss the the story content and shapes of alphabet letters.
My Take
ELAa’s interactive story books are a great way to start encouraging preschooler's to read. They have captivating illustrations which correspond to simple sentences, as well as word patterns that are easy to predict on each page. Individual words are highlighted and heard when tapped to enhance learning experiences. The stories are meaningful, funny, and of interest to young children. Importantly, these entertaining stories will help young children to learn the directions ‘up’, ‘down’, ‘around’ and ‘across’. Knowing these directions will help them form the shapes of alphabet letters. Pre-schoolers will have fun tracing directions and shapes on each page with their fingers as well as reading along with a teacher or parent or listening to the author read the story. The app also helps support word learning and listening skills and is a valuable literacy resource for the early years classroom.
