How I Use It
Excellent for creating little 'How To' presentations and annotating complex or difficult concepts. I watched an 11 year old create a homework presentation on 3D shapes with no prior knowledge of how the app worked. She built a little three dimensional town from coloured wooden blocks, and then photographed it from several angles on her iPad. She then was able to use the app to draw on top of the image, circling structures and using arrows to identify shapes. All the while she was annotating what she was doing in real-time as a voice over and even added a soundtrack by simply playing a tune on her stereo in the background. When she was finished she simply saved the project and emailed it to her teacher who played it to the whole class next day. This example shows a sizable amount of complex thinking being brought together in one place and then shared with other students. I can envisage many other similar uses for the app including students developing 'how to' presentations for other tools, apps and technology they are beginning to use.
Educreations is a whizzy little app that makes it easy to create a professional looking presentation for almost any user. You can use your own images or those from the web, annotate onscreen and narrate your slides with voiceover in real-time. I use the app on my iPad but our students have used it successfully on iPod touch as well as viewing results on PCs projected through their interactive classroom whiteboards. Educreations seems a very intuitive and flexible app that kids will just love to play around with. I'm sure they will show me things I would never think of doing with it.
