How I Use It
I would use Duolingo in a classroom setting to help with communication. If you teach in a school system which multiple languages being spoken, it is a great opportunity to teach students to communicate with each other. Also, Duolingo could be used to teach ESL students how to learn English as a second language. Foreign language classrooms could use this app to teach and review language skills, new vocabulary and the usage of the vocabulary. The app is used in a building block format that requires a certain mastery level before the students can move onto the next level. This is a great tool to ensure that the students are not just quickly moving through the skills, but understanding the content.
My Take
I think this app is a great supplemental tool for any language classroom. I like the fact that if you spend a certain amount of time away from the app it makes sure you remember the skills that you have used by making you test out of material that you have already learned. The app engages students with content is an exciting manner that allows them to enjoy learning while they feel like they are playing a game.
