How I Use It
I have been using the Digital Passport for over 3 years in my 4th grade computer classes. I have implemented it different ways but I like the way I am using it this year the most. I open the topic with a model of engagement activity, brainstorm, think pair share, class discussion. We discuss the topic and how they are using the particular topic in their real lives. The students then individually complete the lessons. I make sure that the students have a passing score or they have to do it again. To wrap up, we discuss the mission and what new things they learned and can apply to their digital lives.
My Take
I love the digital passport. I think it is a well organized way to teach kids about being a good digital citizen. I love that it can open up topics that are applicable to what the students are doing online. IF I could make a change I would ask that the games save mid progress. I have the students for once a week for 40 minutes and if they can't complete it during the allotted time they are required to start over. I also think it would be nice if the students could not progress to the next round if they were not "getting it". I think that it would be nice to have some sort of review at the end of each mission that is quiz like so that you can do a quick assessment of what they are learning.
