How I Use It
Book Creator is an amazing tool to use with students with learning challenges. It is very user-friendly, easy to learn and navigate. Once I started using Book Creator I saw increased engagement and risk-taking skills in my students. It provides students with different choices to showcase their creativity and learning. It also provides teachers with an opportunity to assess soft skills such as creativity and critical thinking skills. I have used Book Creator in two literature classes and 1 LS class. Using Book Creator has increased students' engagement and they took greater ownership of their learning. They demonstrated great pride in sharing their work and always exhibited a great sense of accomplishment. My students generated amazing creative summaries for novel chapters. They also loved writing journal entries for mentor texts they were reading and to record personal thoughts and experiences.
Book Creator is without any doubt a valuable teaching tool for students with learning challenges. My students love the audio/recording feature as it allowed our struggling readers and writers an alternate way to demonstrate comprehension and critical thinking skills. The emoji tools can provide and represent a wide range of ideas and instead of using words students can express themselves with images. Using emojis this way encourages students to determine the most important details or concepts, and then create a visual summary that clearly conveys their ideas.
