How I Use It
Book Creator is an app that is used every week if not every day in my classroom. My students create alphabet books, vocabulary books, entries in their math journals, science observation books, opinion, narrative and informative books and MORE. We have used this app to showcase our classroom rules, introduce our classroom to a new student and to share our knowledge of various subjects. We use it for specific assignments, as well as free writing and creating anything we want. We add pictures, video, text, illustrations and voice recordings to almost every single book!
My Take
My overall opinion of this app is that it is a must have in every single classroom. Having students able to take their writing and ideas to the next level using technology and adding more options such as video, pictures and voice recording is an amazing fluency and confidence builder. As a teacher, you are able to assess students creations without having to sit with each student while they are writing in any subject. The projects can be saved, emailed, uploaded to Google Classroom, Showbie and more. My students are able to go from traditional writing and showcasing their learning to creating these same lessons and more using this app and I have noticed they are more motivated to create books and entries in their math journal and so on by using the iPad to do so. The only issue we have seen that sometimes seems complicated is students trying to enlarge and shrink anything on the page. Using the blue dots seems more difficult than using their two fingers like you do in other applications to zoom in and out of a picture. Overall, the students do learn how to use the blue dots and they keep on creating and creating! I LOVE Book Creator and get excited to see what my students create beyond my directions for each lesson.
