How I Use It
I used this app with fourth graders to create two different ebooks. One book was a was a personal narrative. Students inserted personal photos, recorded/inserted videos of themselves, and recorded their voices reading the book aloud or adding additional content. The audio recording was really popular with students who struggled with written expression. The second project was a research project. Students researched famous explorers and wrote biographies supplemented with pictures from Britannica Image Quest and original drawings. The final product looked really impressive and the students enjoyed sharing the ebook files with their friends and family. I wouldn't use Book Creator with students younger than third grade, but I think students all the way up to 12th grade would enjoy using this app. I look forward to using Book Creator again for more projects.
My Take
I've tried many different apps and websites for creating ebooks and I like Book Creator the best. It is easy to use and I like that you can imbed a variety of media. Of course, the app doesn't teach students how to write a book - that's the teacher's job. Though you can use Book Creator to write fiction, I think it a great tool for sharing nonfiction work and curating informational content. You can try the app for free, but it is definitely worth the price for the full version.
