How I Use It
I used Animoto at the beginning of the school year to introduce students to new apps, but in a safe, comfortable way. We spent the first week of our school year with community building activities and I specifically used Animoto to have the students create a 30-second to 1-minute video about themselves. They could use their own pictures or images from the web. It was a great way to get to know each other and the students were able to explore, make mistakes, and learn new tools in a safe environment (no content involved). I can now have students build Animotos around the content and know that they have a working knowledge of the program.
I really liked using Animoto. It was quick and easy and all students were able to be successful. They liked being able to choose music and I liked that they had a limited selection. The templates are fun and easy to use. I also like that students are only able to enter a limited amount of text, so they have to be thoughtful about their ideas. I think Animoto could be used as a formative assessment on just about any topic. It allows students to produce a different product that they really enjoy creating.
