Teacher Review For Animoto Video Maker

The Animoto App is a great way to allow students to show their learning but it is not as flexible or user friendly as the Animoto website.

How I Use It
While I have used the Animoto website in science class for years as end of unit projects and showing the procedure and results of an investigation, I have found the app more difficult to use effectively. In the app, students can add pictures, but they cannot rearrange them. They cannot add text nor captions. Both of these are available in the online version. As an app, I think the use is limited to a nice slide show. Ideally, students would add photos and videos through the add and then edit their presentation in the online version. That is how I have used it in class.
My Take
I have used the Animoto website with students for years, so was excited about the app. However, after using the app, it does not compare favorably to the website. Students cannot rearrange photos in the app, like they can on the website, and they cannot add text to slides. The only slide on which they can create text is the last one. If students only had the app to work with, they would like it, but if they have used the online version, the app is disappointing. They cannot show their learning as completely using this app, as they can if they have the website available.
