How I Use It

I have used both the Web-based and App forms of Touch Cast in my classroom. It is pretty user-friendly, and students enjoyed doing both group and personal projects with the app. Although the app had a few glitches (teleprompter did not work, and weren’t able to utilize Dragon Speak), it appears that the glitches are gone and the app works smoothly now. My students who are English learners benefited from Touch Cast. It allowed students who have little self-confidence speaking, or presenting in a second language blossom into students who spoke with confidence and conviction! For the most part, I attribute the positives to the use of the teleprompter as well reviewing and revising content.

My Take

Touch Cast is a must-use app for middle and high school students. It is a high-interest app with limitless possibilities for use and speaks to common core standards in speaking and listening. The app allows for creating, evaluating, and critiquing – it can be very reflective! Students found the teleprompter a wonderful addition to the presentation app as it helps the presenter stay on topic, dive deeper, and build self-esteem as students revise as necessary after critiquing their projects prior to presenting. The only cons can be content and privacy at times, but Touch Cast’s online policy and careful monitoring appears to be doing a good job of keeping up with questionable material posted.
