How I Use It
Students can use this application as an addition to any lesson. It allows freedom for students to choose which area of math they'd like to focus on (number comparison) (number recognition) (putting numbers in proper order) (addition and subtraction). The game allows for individual practice. The app is easy to understand and utilize by the youngest of students. The instructions are spoken by the characters so students don't have to read to understand. Students liked the ease of use, as well as the choices in games.
I think this app is great for PK-K students. It has fun characters, who many are already familiar with, and allows them to feel like they are helping solve a "mission" with Team Umizoomi. Students are able to earn badges and trophies for all of their work and the repetition helps students truly understand numbers. I wish it would tier the learning to increase difficulty after a certain amount of play even more, but some games are more difficult than others so you could assign certain "games" for varied learners. After 8 levels are completed on all 5 games students earn a key to Umi City. Each game takes around 2 min per round.
