How I Use It
I love this app. I cannot say enough great things about it, and I know that I have just scratched the surface of its usefulness in the classroom setting. This year I used it as a typical whiteboard app allowing students to practice math problems and then airplay to the projector to show their thinking. I did this both with individuals and small groups when reviewing for a quiz/test and also to practice in the classroom. After further investigation, I decided to take it a step further and have the students complete word problems that would have been done on a traditional worksheet using this app. I took snapshots of the word problems from the worksheet and put them onto a different page of an Explain Everything project. I saved the project into a Google Drive folder that was shared with all students. The students went into the folder and grabbed a copy of the document and opened it in the app. Following this, they were able to work the problems out on each page of the project and show and record their thoughts as they did so. This was amazing to hear later! I was not only able to see their work but also hear their thinking as they worked the problems.
My Take
I loved this project. It really allowed me to virtually work one on one with each math student because of the ability to show and record their work. This app has many different uses and this was one of them! It made my teaching much better because I was able to address individual needs after watching the videos. The students surprised me with how savvy they were with the app as well, being it was their first time using it!
