How I Use It
My 4th grade students created pamphlets for animal rescue organizations. They conducted research using Google tools, gathered notes on Google Slides, and then wrote a rough draft on Google Slides. This allowed for building skills as set by our district standards and goals. As a teacher, I could easily give the feedback in a way they were used to. From there we copy-and-pasted into Book Creator and used all the powerful formatting tools that Book Creator offers. Some students went straight to Book Creator and used to speech-to-text tool to author their book. Students easily inserted images, shapes, backgrounds, and video clips (all fair-use certified) into the pages. It was easy to re-order to pages and change overall format of the book. The best part was the ease of sharing one book at a time or a whole library of books. As a teacher I found this took very little time. Students, the community, and the families loved seeing full e-books online.
My Take
As a teaching tool this facilitated students making online books in a format they already enjoy. They could see their work being modern and relevant, This is authentic learning and sharing at its best. There is a small learning curve with how to format text, but once you learn the power of the icons, the kids had an easy time formatting the books.
